2 ReviewsExperience local guides, legendary trails, and the iconic Everest Base Camp trek with Himalaya Darshan Treks!
The Everest Base Camp Trek is popular and the most demanding trekking trail worldwide. Many people from around the world have a dream to see this tallest mountain. It is a wonderful place to visit. The journey to Everest Base Camp is a lifetime experience. The base camp is located at an altitude of 5,364 m, and the Kala Patthar peak is 5,545 m. This viewpoint offers one of the best opportunities to see a close view of Mt. Everest and the surrounding area.
Starting from Lukla, a small mountain city in Nepal, the journey winds through the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique biodiversity. Along the trail, pedestrians will encounter graphic Sherpa townlets, ancient abbeys, and towering peaks that produce a memorable background.
The trekking route passes through Namche Bazaar, a bustling Sherpa resort city, where pedestrians can adapt and rest before continuing their ascent. The trip also leads to Tengboche, home to one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in the region. Then, pedestrians can witness witching observances and soak in the spiritual air.

As the trek progresses, trekkers reach Kala Patthar, 5,545 meters, a vantage point renowned for offering the most awe-inspiring panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other towering peaks. The sunset and sunrise view from Kala Patthar is an indescribable spectacle that leaves trekkers in awe. The final destination is EBC, Everest Base Camp, positioned at an altitude of 5,364 meters (17,598 feet). At this point, pedestrians can savor the satisfaction of standing at the bottom of the world’s loftiest peak.
Throughout the trip, accommodation is provided in teahouses or lodges, offering introductory amenities and a chance to interact with fellow pedestrians from around the globe. Original Sherpas serve as attendants and offer inestimable perceptions of the Everest Region’s history, culture, and mountaineering traditions.

The weather and climatic conditions greatly influence the success and overall experience of the Everest Base Camp Trek. The ideal time to embark on this adventure is during the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons.
The Everest Base Camp Trek is considered moderately difficult. While it does not require technical climbing skills or prior mountaineering experience, it does demand a high level of physical fitness and mental determination. Trekkers will encounter steep ascents, rocky trails, and high altitudes, which can be physically and mentally challenging.
The trek can last for about 10-12-14-17 days (it depends on your holiday time in Nepal), covering a distance of approximately 130 kilometers (80 miles), with daily walking durations of 5–7 hours. Acclimatization is crucial during the trek to minimize the risk of altitude sickness. Therefore, it is recommended to engage in regular exercise and cardiovascular training before attempting the Everest Base Camp Trek.
The trek to Everest Base Camp depends on your group size, the types of services, like food, and the standards of hotels during the journey. We, Himalaya Darshan Treks, offer three different types of costs for the Everest Base Camp trek in 2026. Like the average cost per person:

Flight Information to/from Lukla: Due to the Kathmandu airport overcrowding, flights to Lukla (Everest Region) depart from Ramechhap Airport during the busiest season. The distance from Kathmandu to Manthali Airport is about 130 kilometers. So it takes about 3.5 to 4 hours to drive. We leave Kathmandu at 1 or 1:30 AM to catch our early morning flights from Manthali to Lukla.
Note: The flight will be departing from March 15 to May 15 and from October to November. However, it depends on the decision of the airlines and the civil aviation authority of Nepal.
The adverse weather conditions and overtraffic at Kathmandu airports are the main reasons for delaying and canceling flights. The weather in hilly and Himalayan regions will change so quickly. So, we at Himalaya Darshan Treks highly recommend managing a minimum of 1 or 2 extra days for your Everest and Dolpo region treks.
The airlines have a weight limitation of only 15 kilograms (about 33 pounds) per person, so please try to make your luggage less than 15 kilograms. If the plane is not overweight, you can pay extra. So, the best option is to make your bag light.
In conclusion, the Everest Base Camp Trek is an adventure of a lifetime, offering pedestrians the opportunity to witness the majesty of the Himalayas nearby. From stirring lookouts to artistic hassles, this trip promises indelible recollections. Lace up your thrills, embrace the challenge, and embark on this iconic journey to the Roof of the World.

5. Do I need a guide for the Everest Base Camp Trek?
Well, the guide is not mandatory; you can do a solo trek without a guide, but we highly recommend and advise all travelers to. Always trek/travel with a guide or porter for your safety. If you compare a trek with a guide to one without a guide, you will notice a significant difference. Trekking with a guide is safer; you know more about the culture, history, and mountains of that region from the guide.
You might experience altitude sickness when trekking above 3000 meters. There will be a high chance of altitude sickness. On this trek, you have to hike to Everest Base Camp at 5364 m and to Kalapatthar at 5545 m. So, always be aware of the risks of altitude sickness. Follow the necessary precautions, such as walking slowly, acclimatization, and staying hydrated (drinking enough water). It plays a big role in the success of your trek.
7. What about Internet and phone connectivity during the EBC trek?
Internet and phone connectivity are available during the trek. Most of the guest houses provide internet service, but you have to pay. So you can buy a local SIM card with data for additional options. But it is also not working in all places. Furthermore, you can buy a card (Everest Link) to use the Internet. Highly recommend bringing a power bank to charge your phone, camera, etc.
Tipping is NOT mandatory, but it is highly customary and expected in the trekking industry. Tipping your trekking guide and porter is an important way to show appreciation for their hard work—especially on treks in Nepal, where tips constitute a significant part of their income. The amount depends on the trek length, difficulty, and your satisfaction with their service.
The amount for tipping depends on the trek’s length, difficulty, and your satisfaction with their service. Basically, you can tip the guide 15 to 18% and the porter 12 to 15% of your full payment for your trekking package.
You can tip more than this if you’re happy with your guide and porter’s service. Tips are always expected in the tourism sector of Nepal.

Drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap and fly to Lukla, then trek to Phakding.
Our trek begins in the morning with a crossing of the Dudh Kosi River, passing through the charming villages of Toktok, Bhenkar, and Monjo before arriving at the Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate. We then trek for a few hours along the riverbed and cross our final bridge before a steep uphill trek to Namche Bazaar. Namche is home to various excellent restaurants, pubs, a computer café, a post office, and banks. It is the main gateway to the entrance of the Everest region too.
This is your Excruciation day. After breakfast, you can hike to Hotel Everest View. From there you can enjoy seeing breathtaking views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Amadablam. Likewise, there are many other beautiful mountain peaks in the Everest Himalayan range. You also can enjoy wild animals, birds, and many more. You can explore Namche Bazaar and enjoy your evening with many restaurants, bars (Irish bar), and a shopping center.
After breakfast in Namche, we begin our journey to Tengboche, with spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and a close-up glimpse of Thamserku. Our walk to Tengboche has a few ups and downs and beautiful Himalayan views. Tengboche is home to the Khumbu region’s largest Buddhist monastery.
The ideal time to see Tengboche’s magnificent monastery is on a clear morning. This is an excellent opportunity to use your camera! We then continue our climb on the top trail, taking advantage of the views to see the ancient monastery, before passing past various Chortens and Mani walls and several tiny settlements to reach Dingboche
It’s beneficial to take another day to acclimate before traveling to higher elevations. Hike to Nagarjun Hill at 5,000 m. You can enjoy the magnificent mountain views of Mount Makalu, Taboche, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Island Peak. Then descend to the hotel.
After breakfast, any simple trek will take us to Dugla, where we will cross the Khumbu Glacier’s steep moraine. The trail to Gorakshep winds its way across the Khumbu Glacier’s moraine, past the pyramid marker. We soon obtain views of Mt. Pumori, Lingtern, Khumbutse, Nuptse, and the crest of Everest’s North Slope. We hike a short distance to Thangma Riju, where we have a breathtaking 360-degree view of snow-capped mountains.
After a short break and having some lunch at our guest house, we will start our walk to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m, walking through the glacier. After enormous success in reaching the base camp of Mt. Everest, we will be back to Gorakshep.
Some trekkers don’t like to go to Base Camp and may prefer to stay at the hotel and plan a walk to Kala Pathar to see the spectacular sunset view.
Today is a remarkable day, and it represents the pinnacle of our trip. The stunning views from Kala Patthar of the new day and the light shining on Mount Everest are best seen early in the morning. Before embarking on our journey, we must be prepared for the dark and chilly conditions (-10 to -14 degrees C). We then return to Gorakshep for breakfast before making our way to Pheriche for a well-earned night’s rest.
Today, all the way to Namche Bazaar. The trail passes through Shomare, Pangboche, and Tengboche. The trail then enters the Dudh Koshi gorge and descends steeply through the pine forests after crossing the prayer flag-draped bridge at Phungitenga. After that, heading up to Sanasa, the region’s primary trail junction is reached at the end of the walk. As we traverse the forest, we should be on the lookout for various wild animals, including mountain goats, snow leopards, colorful pheasants, and other species. We arrive at the army camp at Namche Bazaar after passing via Chorten.
The trail begins with a steep fall that requires us to take each step carefully across uneven terrain. Over the Dudh Koshi and its tributaries, we traverse multiple suspension bridges. The trail then flattens out and becomes more manageable. Fresh mountain air fills your lungs, preparing you for the journey ahead. When we arrive in Lukla, we stretch our tired legs and reflect on the previous few weeks as we come to the end of our journey, full of great memories and delight, with everyone safe and sound and with a smile on their face!

I could not have hoped for a better guide—Gyan knows every rock and tree of the Himalayas, having been a guide for many years, a porter before that and a local to the Kumbhu region. Gyan has been walking the trails of the Everest region since he was a child, and his experience and knowledge is absolutely invaluable to those lucky enough to have him as their guide.
I did a 15-day trek to Gokyo Lakes and EBC. With weather delays, flights to Lukla were cancelled four days in a row. Gyan saved the day for me and two others affected by the cancellations by arranging ground transportation to the trail.
After that, everything went smoothly and according to plan. Thanks to Gyan and his extensive knowledge of the area and genuine desire to show off his beautiful home country, my trek was a great success and despite setbacks, I was able to complete everything I set out to do—in record time no less!
Gyan speaks superb english, so although the trails were quiet, I always had someone to talk to about Everest, local traditions or life in general.
The EBC trek is not easy, but it’s worth it: challenging, uncomfortable, and cold. Gyan will do everything he can to make it as comfortable and successful a journey as possible whatever your goals may be—including safety and peace of mind.
I cannot stress enough how well Gyan knows these mountains, which can make or break the trip depending on weather, closures, trail maintenance and many other factors out of our control. With Gyan, we always knew exactly where we were going, the best teahouses and pit stops, and what was possible or not based on the season, weather etc. His knowledge was absolutely invaluable—so much so that I’m certain my itinerary would have been impossible with any other guide.
I wouldn’t think of hiring anyone else as a trekking guide, and I look forward to doing more trekking with Himalaya Darshan!
Thank you, Gyan!
Just finished the EBC trek with my son, who now lives in Australia, and we had an amazing time – the weather was good and the views fantastic. We even got to the top of Kalapatthar at 5600m. Most importantly our guide Dilli was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. He took such good care of us and organized all the accommodations on the trail, which was significantly better than when I did the same trek 5 years ago. I highly recommend Dilli and Darshan Treks!
