DudhKunda Lake Trek

DudhKunda Lake Trek is one of Nepal’s newest and most exciting trekking routes. The trekking route passes through various traditional settlements in the Solukhumbu district. At 4,600 meters above sea level, it is nestled in the lap of Numbur Himal 6,959m. The DudhKunda Trekking will provide stunning vistas of the eastern Himalayan Range, including the incredible Mt Everest view.

The trek to Dudhkunda Lake is a challenging yet rewarding experience. Offering stunning views of Himalayan peaks, including Mount Everest and many other snow-capped mountains. Dudh Kunda Lake, which means “milky lake” in Nepali, is located at the base of the Numbur Himal, also known as Shorong Yul Lha, or “Protector of Solu Region.”

Dudhkunda Teahouse Trek

Nowadays, Teahouses are available along the route, providing basic accommodation and meals. These teahouses offer a chance for trekkers to rest, eat local cuisine, and interact with fellow trekkers. If you plan to stay a night at Dhudhkunda, there is no teahouse so you will have to carry food and tents. But the other place is available normal teahouse.

Itinerary


Day 1, Arrival at Kathmandu Airport (1,400m) and transfer to hotel

We, Himalaya Darshan Treks warmly welcome you and your group to Nepal. One of our company staff will take you to your hotel in Kathmandu. The person will be waiting outside the baggage hall of the Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, holding an A4-size paper with your name and our company name. So, you have to look for that person for your pick up from the airport. Your check-in at the hotel.

Day 2, Drive to Dhap/Pattale 2,840m, Stay at the tea house.

We’ll leave Kathmandu early in the morning. On the scenic drive, the road leads us through many beautiful places. The road condition is very good, drive through Banepa, Khurkot, Okhaldhunga and finally reach Dhap/Patale. The distance from Kathmandu to Patale is about 250 kilometers. We drive through the BP highway flowing the Sunkoshi River valley and ascend a hilly from Ghurmi then a twisting road to Patale 2,840m. It is a very nice and beautiful place. Stay at the tea house.

Day 3, Drive to Phaplu 2,413m Stay at the hotel.

Early in the morning, we will hike to Patale Danda 2,965m (Patale viewpoint). It takes about 45 minutes to get there. You can enjoy the breathtaking views of Mt Everest at 8,848m, Mt Lhotse at 8,516m, Mt Makalu at 8,463m, and Mt Kanchenjunga at 8,586m. Besides that, Numbur Himal, Mera Peak, Thamserku, Nuptse, and many other beautiful snowcapped mountains.

Patale Danda is also best to see the sunrise view, Green Valley, and forest (The area is very colorful from March to May months by the rhododendron flower). After enjoying the view, we will back to our tea house and we will have lunch. After lunch, we will drive to Phaplu Bazaar. It is a small and beautiful place; it is also possible to fly from Kathmandu to Phaplu for this Dudhkunda Lake Trek.

Day 4, Trek to Taksindu 2,842m. Stay at a teahouse.

You can enjoy the Numbur Himal from here. After breakfast, we will start our journey to Ringmu passing through a beautiful village and nice scenery. We stopped for lunch here. After lunch, our trekking trail starts ascending to Taksindu Danda 2842m. It is also a beautiful place and you enjoy the Everest Himalayan range from here.

Day 5, Trek to Kami Danda 3,560m, Stay at a teahouse (Numbur Retreat)

After breakfast, we will start our journey to Kami Danda. It is also a nice place, you can enjoy the beautiful mountain view from here. Today, there is no teahouse for the lunch. So, we will have to carry a packed lunch from the Taksindu. It is another beautiful day on this trek. You can enjoy the beautiful mountain and valley view along the way to Kami Danda 3,560m, Stay at a teahouse (Numbur Retreat)

Day 6, Trek to Sahasrabeni 4,037m, Stay at normal teahouse.

After breakfast, we will start our journey from Kami Danda to Sahasrabeni. Today also there is no teahouse for the lunch. So, we will have to carry pack lunch from the Numbur Retreat. You can take rest, take a photo for the memory of this trek then finally reach Sahasrabeni 4,037m, Stay at a normal teahouse.

Day 7, Trek to Dudhkunda Lake 4,600m, Stay at Camping/Tent

The trail leads us ascending to Dudhkunda Lake. We can enjoy the breathtaking views of Numbur, Karyalung, and surrounding peaks. Likewise, many glacial lakes around Dudh Kunda. Stay at Camping.

Or You have another option, early in the morning, you can start hiking to Dudh Kunda Lake and enjoy the view, take a holy bath and photographs for the memory of these hidden gems then you can descend to the same teahouse for the night stay.

Day 8, Excursion and descend to Sahasrabeni 4,037m, Stay at a teahouse

You can enjoy the morning view, the reflection of Numbur Himal on the lake, and Sun kissing view of Numbur Himal are amazing. You can take great photo shoots of these views. At the foot of Numbur Himal and the Karyalung Glacier, DudhKunda Lake (4,600m) is said to be Lord Shiva’s home. Pilgrims throng the lake around the full moon in August because Buddhist and Hindu worshippers think a dip in the ice water will cleanse them of their sins. You also can take a holy bath from this holy lake. Then trek descend to Sahasrabeni 4,037m (Known as Dudhkunda Base Camp)

Day 9, Trek descends to Junbesi 2,700m, Stay at a teahouse

After breakfast, we will trek descend to Thupten Choling Monastery 2,920m. Explore the monastery and meditate with nuns. At the moment, there are around 350 nuns (Female Monks) practicing and pretty much running the monastery. Or trek descends to Junbesi. Stay at a teahouse.

Or

If you don’t have enough time you can continue your trek to Kami Dandato Phaplu. (Same way descend)

Day 10, Trek descends to Phaplu 2,413m, Stay at the hotel.

In the morning, we will visit Junbesi (a Beautiful Sherpa village) and then trek to Phaplu.

Day 11, Flight to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Scenic flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel. Today, you say goodbye to the Himalayas and board a flight back to Kathmandu. Enjoy one more breakfast in a café, a city stroll, and souvenir shopping in Kathmandu.
