Pikey Peak Dudhkunda Trek

In lower Solukhumbu, Pikey Peak is a famous trekking destination on the south side of the Everest region. It is a short and beautiful trek. The Pikey Peak Dudhkunda Trek in the Lower Solukhumbu Region is tremendously rewarding.  It offers a unique opportunity to learn about Sherpa culture. This trekking trail is one of the greatest for discovering natural and cultural wonders.

Especially, our Pikey Peak Dudhkunda Trek package begins in Patale Danda, at an elevation of 2,840 meters, after a picturesque drive from Kathmandu. Pikey Peak, at 4,065 meters, is a one-hour hike from Pikey Base Camp at 3,600m. From the Pikey summit, we will enjoy the spectacular view of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and Dhaulagiri Himalayan ranges.

Hike to Thubten Chholing Monastery

As well as Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Numbur, Gaurisankhar, Langtang, and other lovely snow-capped summits to the far west. After that, we continue our trek through Traktor via Lamajura La Pass 3765m to Junbesi (an attractive Sherpa settlement). We will hike to the beautiful Thubten Chholing monastery from Junbesi. It is a famous (Women’s Monks) Nuns monastery. Again, we will continue our trek to reach the second objective (DudhKunda Lake) for the hike after passing via Yak Kharka and Sahasrabeni.

Note: If you are interested in visiting Nun’s Monastery in Kathmandu then we will guide you. You just need one extra day in Kathmandu.

Dudhkunda Lake Trek

In addition, you will have a day off to explore Dudh Kunda Lake (4,600m). It’s also known as Milky Lake, a holy lake revered by Hindus and Buddhists. During the August festival season, this trail is also clogged with many pilgrims. During your walk, you may come across some of the region’s unusual birds, creatures, and beautiful mountains just in front of you.

After exploring the beautiful Dudhkunda Lake, our journey descends through Kami Danda and Taksindu to Phaplu’s little airport. As we board a flight back to Kathmandu.

Itinerary


Day 01, Arrival at Kathmandu Airport (1,400m) and transfer to hotel

We, Himalaya Darshan Treks heartily welcome you and your group to Nepal. One of our company staff will take you to your hotel in Kathmandu. The person will be waiting outside the baggage hall of the Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, holding an A4-size paper with your name and our company name. So, you have to look for that person for your pick up from the airport. Your check-in at the hotel.

Day 02, Drive to Dhap/Patale Danda 2,840m, Stay at Tea house.

We’ll leave Kathmandu early in the morning. On the scenic drive, the road leads us through many beautiful places. The road condition is very good, drive through Banepa, Khurkot, Okhaldhunga, and finally reach Dhap/Patale. The distance from Kathmandu to Patale is about 250 kilometers. We drive through the BP highway flowing the Sunkoshi River valley and ascend a hilly from Ghurmi then a twisting road to Patale 2,840m. It is a very nice and beautiful place. Stay at the tea house.

Day 03, Trek to Jhapre 2,920m. Stay at tea house

The pathway rapidly departs off the road and leads you through a forest of brightly colored rhododendrons, white sub-alpine flowers, and limitless vistas of the world’s biggest mountain range. The day begins with a relaxing 5-6 hour walk on quiet trails, followed by an overnight stay in the peaceful mountain village of Jhapre.

Day 04, Trek to Pike Base Camp 3,640m. Stay at tea house.

The Solu Khumbu’s lower reaches are peaceful, quiet, and serene, and today you’ll learn why trekking in this section of Nepal is so remarkable. You’ll travel through Sherpa settlements, floral meadows, yak herds and their shepherds, mani walls and stupas, old forest, and ultimately into the high alpine, where you’ll arrive at Pikey Peak Base Camp. This is a relatively difficult day, especially as we gain altitude, but it is unquestionably a very rewarding day on the route.

Day 05, Hike to Pikey Peak 4,065m and Trek to Junbesi 2,700m. Stay at tea house.

Early morning hiking to Pikey Peak 4,065m. Enjoy the beautiful sunrise and breathtaking mountain views of Mt.Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and Dhaulagiri as well as Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Numbur, Gaurisankhar, Langtang to the far west and others beautiful snow-capped mountains. Then trek to Junbesi 2,700m. Stay at a tea house.

Day 06, Trek to Thupten Choling Monastery 2,920m. Stay at a normal tea house.

After breakfast, Trek to Thupten Choling Monastery 2,920m. Explore the monastery and meditate with nuns. At the moment, there are around 350 nuns (Female Monks) practicing and pretty much running the monastery. Stay at a normal tea house.

 

Day 07, Trek to Sahasrabeni 4,037m, Stay at normal teahouse.

It is another beautiful day of this trek, we will start our journey to most of the way ascending to reach Sahasrabeni. Today is a long and hard day but you never feel it due to the beautiful scenery. Finally reach Sahasrabeni 4,037m, Stay at normal teahouse.

Day 08, Trek to Dudhkunda Lake 4,600m, Stay at Camping/Tent

The trail leads us ascending to Dudhkunda Lake. We can enjoy the breathtaking views of Numbur, Karyalung, and surrounding peaks. Likewise, many glacial lakes around Dudh Kunda. Stay at Camping.

Or You have another option, early in the morning, you can start hiking to Dudh Kunda Lake and enjoy the view, take a holy bath and photographs for the memory of these hidden gems then you can descend to the same teahouse for the night stay.

Day 9, Excursion and descend to Sahasrabeni 4,037m, Stay at a teahouse

You can enjoy the morning view, the reflection of Numbur Himal on the lake, and Sun kissing view of Numbur Himal are amazing. You can take great photo shoots of these views. At the foot of Numbur Himal and the Karyalung Glacier, DudhKunda Lake (4,600m) is said to be Lord Shiva’s home. Pilgrims throng the lake around the full moon in August because Buddhist and Hindu worshippers think a dip in the ice water will cleanse them of their sins. You also can take a holy bath from this holy lake. Then trek descend to Sahasrabeni 4,037m (Known as Dudhkunda Base Camp)

Day 10, Trek to Kami Danda 3,560m, Stay at a teahouse (Numbur Retreat)

Trek to Kami Danda with the beautiful memory of these hidden lakes and amazing mountain views.

Day 11, Trek to Taksindu 2,842m. Stay at tea house

You can continue your trekking to Takshindu. From here you can enjoy seeing beautiful mountains, Green Valley and many more.

Day 12, Trek to Phaplu 2,413m. Stay at hotel

Your trek back to Phaplu. If you feeling tired, it is possible to drive to Phaplu from Takshindu by a bumpy road.

Day 13, Flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Today you say your goodbyes to the Himalayas and board a flight back to Kathmandu. Enjoy one more breakfast in a café, a city stroll, and souvenir shopping in Kathmandu. You will be picked up from your hotel and transported to the airport for your return flight.

Day 14, Final Departure.

This will be the last day of your trip in Nepal. One of our staff will take you and your group to Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu for your final departure. We wish you and your group safe flights with unforgettable memory from your Nepal trip. Hope to see you again.
