Olangchung Gola Trek

The Olangchung Gola Trek is very rich in natural and cultural heritage. It is located in the Taplejung district in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. Olangchung Gola Trek Route is very popular for trekking and hiking. And visit the old and historical Monastery. Also, Yangma Village is just near the Tibet border so it allows visiting there.

This trek starts from Chhiruwa, after a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, drives to Kanyam, and continues to Chhiruwa. Then, we start our trekking passing through nice and beautiful villages. Like, Lelep, Lungthung, Olangchung Gola, and Yangma are nice villages on this travel. And we have to follow the Tamor River valley.

Visit to Yangma village.

From the gola, we follow the different valleys (Yangma Khola) for a visit to Yangma village. Hike to beautiful Singjema and Samdu Lake. It makes our trek more enjoyable and more adventurous. There is another option to reach Olangchung Gola. You can trek to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp and continue to go Olangchung Gola through the  Nango La Pass 4,795m.

Historical Monastery at Olangchung Gola

Olangchung Gola is a popular tourism destination in eastern Nepal. It is popular through its history, culture, people’s living style, and lifestyle as well as flora and fauna. In Gola there is a very old and historical monastery (about 600 years old); in the monastery, there is a mushroom. Naturally written by “OM MANE PADME HUM” the mantra of Buddhism. It is the main attraction of this monastery. The Yangma village and Olangchung Gola are hidden gems in eastern Nepal.

The Gola and Yangma people are originally from Tibet called BhoTiya. They have Tibetan BhoTiya Culture. They supply their needed things from Tibet carried by Yak. The local people from here are always warm welcoming you with good hospitality.

Where is the Olangchung Gola Trek located?

This trekking destination is located in the Taplejung district in the eastern part of  Nepal in the Kanchenjunga conservation area. The Kanchenjunga region is famous for trekking routes, Expedition, and peak climbing.

How to reach Olangchung Gola?

This trek starts likewise with the Kanchenjunga north base camp trek. Nowadays, we can drive further than Rani Pul following the Tamor valley and the trek starts from Lungthung then the trek continues to Olangchung Gola and Yangma village. Besides that, you can reach Olangchung Gola via Nango La Pass 4795m after the Kanchenjunga base camp trek but you need a few more days.

Do we need permits for the Olangchung Gola Trek?

Yes, you need two different permits to visit this trek. 1, Kanchenjunga Trek Special Permit. 2, Kanchenjunga Conservation Entry Permit.

How much does the permit cost?

The Kanchenjunga Trek Special Permit Cost is $20 p/p per week for the first 4weeks. KCAP entry permit cost is NRs 2000 p/p per entry. So with these permits, you will allowed to visit this region.

What is the highest point of the Olangchung Gola Trek?

The highest point of this trek is Yangma village 4200m. but if you don’t have time and interest to go Yangma then the highest point is Olangchung gola 3265m. It is a beautiful short trek in the Kanchenjunga Region.

Itinerary


Day 1, Arrival in Kathmandu Airport (1,400m) and transfer to hotel

We, Himalaya Darshan Treks warmly welcome you and your group to Nepal. One of our company staff will take you to your hotel in Kathmandu. The person will be waiting outside the baggage hall of the Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, holding an A4-size paper with your name and our company name. So, you have to look for that person for your pick up from the airport. Your check-in at the hotel.

Day 2, Free Day or Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Your free day or Sightseeing in Kathmandu. This day is required to make Kanchenjunga Trek Special Permit with your original passport.

Day 3, Flight to Bhadrapur and Drive to Kanyam. Stay at hotel.

We will transport you to the domestic airport where you will board an internal flight to the southeastern area of Nepal. Bhadrapur is situated in Nepal’s tropical Terai area. We will pick up our vehicles at Bhadrapur and go on a two-day drive into the Himalayas. We drive through a wonderful scenery of agricultural farmland and little towns that quickly transition to hills as we head north. As we ascend into the foothills and arrive in the Kanyam. Stay at the hotel.

Day 4, Drive from Kanyam to Chhiruwa (1,246m). Stay at the tea house.

The drive continues into the Himalayan foothills’ stunning terrain and river belt. Every bend reveals breathtaking views of white snow-capped mountains. We arrive in Taplejung, a small settlement at the end of the route (1,820m) after a late lunch, we continue our journey to Chhiruwa, where we will meet up with our team. Stay at the tea house.

Day 5, Trek to Lelep (1,650m). Stay at the tea house.

Today’s path entails walking along the Tamor River’s riverbank. You will first travel to Tapethok village. To get to Tapethok, you’ll have to walk through magnificent cardamom gardens. you need to check in your Kanchenjunga entry permit at the Conservation Office at Tapethok. Finally, you’ll arrive at Lelep. Stay at the tea house

Day 6, Trek to Ila Danda (2,051m).

Today’s excursion is going through a deep forest. The woodland provides a natural habitat for a variety of wild species. If you’re lucky, you might see some wild animals like red pandas, musk deer, and snow leopards. You’ll cross the Tamor River and make your way up to Chautaro. Ila Danda is within a 20-minute walk from Chautaro. Trekkers can enjoy panoramic views of the icy mountains and the Tamor River from Ila Danda.

Day 7, Trek to Olangchung Gola (3,208m). Stay at tea house.

You will need to walk for a lengthier period today. The route will take you along the Tamor River’s bank. Walking through the rhododendron forest takes another 40 minutes. After that, you’ll cross a suspension bridge. You’ll be walking uphill towards Ramite from the bridge. Following the crossing. Olangchung Gola is a lovely Sherpa settlement. A 600-year-old monastery with a golden cloister is located in the town.

Day 8, Acclimatization Day.

Today is an acclimatization day. You will have a full day to see the region’s fascinating communities. Stones are commonly used to construct homes in this area. Most people here are Tibetan-influenced and follow Tibetan life and culture. Most locals are involved in activities such as trading Tibetan and Nepalese goods. You can hike to Singjema and Samdu Lakes to enjoy the beautiful lake view. Also, you can trek to Yangma village.

Day 9, Trek back to Lungthung.

After breakfast, we will trek back to Lungthung village. The same way descends when we ascend.

Day 10, Trek back to Lelep Village

After breakfast, we will trek back to Lelep village. The same way descends when we ascend.

Day 11, Drive to Kanyam/ Ilam bazaar

We will drive back to Kanyam or Ilam on the same road.

Day 12, Drive to Bhadrapur and flight to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Early morning short drive to Bhadrapur from Kanyam/Ilam. Then, we fly back to Kathmandu on a 45-minute scenic flight, with our final views of the spectacular snow-capped Himalayas. Kanchenjunga Region Treks will return you to your accommodation and will pick you up this evening for a goodbye meal with a cultural performance at a Nepalese restaurant.

Day 13, Final Departure.

This will be the last day of your trip to Nepal. One of our staff will take you and your group to Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu for your final departure. We wish you and your group safe flights with unforgettable memories from your Nepal trip. Hope to see you again.
