Olangchung Gola Trek

The Olangchung Gola Trek is very rich in natural and cultural heritage. It is located in the Taplejung district in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. The Olangchung Gola Trek Route is very popular for trekking and hiking. Additionally, you can visit the old and historical monastery. Furthermore, Yangma Village is just near the Tibetan border, so it allows visiting there.

This trek starts from Chhiruwa, after a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, drives to Kanyam, and continues to Chhiruwa. Then, we start our trek, passing through lovely villages. Villages such as Lelep, Lungthung, Olangchung Gola, and Yangma are beautiful stops on this trip. And we have to follow the Tamor River valley.

Visit Yangma village.

From the gola, we follow the different valleys (Yangma Khola) for a visit to Yangma village. We hike to the beautiful Singjema and Samdu Lake. It makes our trek more enjoyable and more adventurous. There is another option to reach Olangchung Gola. You can trek to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp and continue to go to Olangchung Gola through the Nango La Pass (4,795 m).

Historical Monastery at Olangchung Gola

Olangchung Gola is a popular tourism destination in eastern Nepal. It is popular through its history, culture, people’s living style and lifestyle, and flora and fauna. In Gola, there is an ancient and historical monastery (about 600 years old); in the monastery, there is a mushroom. The mushroom is naturally inscribed with the Buddhist mantra, “OM MANE PADME HUM.”  It is the main attraction of this monastery. The Yangma village and Olangchung Gola are hidden gems in eastern Nepal.

The Gola and Yangma people are originally from Tibet, known as BhoTiya. They have the Tibetan BhoTiya culture. They supply the things they need from Tibet, carried by yak. The local people here are always warm and welcoming, and they will welcome you with excellent hospitality.

Olangchung Gola Trek Itinerary

There are several trekking routes to Olangchung Gola. Normally, 9 to 12 days will be enough for the Olangchung Gola trek. If you have enough time, you can follow our 18-day itinerary for your Best Kanchenjunga Trek with the Olangchung Gola. You can choose your best itinerary according to your holiday time in Nepal.

Where is the Olangchung Gola Trek located?

This trekking destination is located in the Taplejung district in the eastern part of Nepal, in the Kanchenjunga conservation area. The Kanchenjunga region is famous for trekking routes, expeditions, and peak climbing.

How to reach Olangchung Gola?

This trek starts similarly to the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp trek. Currently, we can drive beyond Rani Pul along the Tamor Valley, and the trek begins at Lungthung, continuing on to Olangchung Gola and Yangma village. Besides that, you can reach Olangchung Gola via Nango La Pass (4795 m) after the Kanchenjunga base camp trek, but you need a few more days.

Do we need permits for the Olangchung Gola Trek?

Yes, you need two different permits to participate in the Olangchung Gola Trek. 1. Kanchenjunga Trek Special Permit. 2. Kanchenjunga Conservation Entry Permit.

How much does the permit cost?

The Kanchenjunga Trek Special Permit Cost is $20 p/p per week for the first 4 weeks. The KCAP entry permit cost is NRs 2000 p/p per entry. So with these permits, you will be allowed to visit this region.

What is the highest point of the Olangchung Gola Trek?

The highest point of this trek is Yangma village, 4200 m, but if you don’t have time and interest to go to Yangma, then the highest point is Olangchung Gola, 3265 m. It is a beautiful short trek in the Kanchenjunga Region.

2: Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur and drive to Phidim by Jeep

8: Acclimatization Day

13: From Yak Kharka, we will trek to Nangola Pass and then continue to Lang Jong Kharka for camping.

Itinerary


Day 1, Arrival in Kathmandu Airport (1,400m) and transfer to hotel

We, Himalaya Darshan Treks warmly welcome you and your group to Nepal. One of our company staff will take you to your hotel in Kathmandu. The person will be waiting outside the baggage hall of the Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, holding an A4-size paper with your name and our company name. So, you have to look for that person for your pick up from the airport. Your check-in at the hotel.

Day 2, Flight to Bhadrapur and Drive to Pauwa Bhanjyang. Stay at hotel.

Your guide picks you up from your hotel to go to the domestic airport. Scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur (45 minutes) and drive to Pauwa Bhanjyang through beautiful tea plantation at Kanyam. If clear the weather you can see beautiful mountain view of Kanchenjunga Himalayan range. Stay at the hotel.

Day 3, Drive to Ila Danda (2,051m).

We will continue driving to Taplejung and stop for lunch. From here, we will change the vehicle to drive through the rough and bumpy road to Ila Danda. Stay at a teahouse.

Note: There is a bridge is under contraction so when it complete then you will continue drive to Olangchung gola.

Day 4, Trek to Olangchung Gola (3,208m). Stay at tea house.

You will need to walk for a lengthier period today. The route will take you along the Tamor River’s bank. Walking through the rhododendron forest takes another 40 minutes. Thereafter, you’ll cross a suspension bridge. You’ll be walking uphill towards Ramite from the bridge. Following the crossing. Olangchung Gola is a lovely Sherpa settlement. The town is home to a 600-year-old monastery with a golden cloister.

Day 5, Acclimatization Day.

Today is an acclimatization day. You will have a full day to see the region’s fascinating communities. Stones are commonly used to construct homes in this area. Most people here are Tibetan-influenced and follow Tibetan life and culture. Most locals are involved in activities such as trading Tibetan and Nepalese goods. You can hike to Singjema and Samdu Lakes to enjoy the beautiful lake view. Furthermore, you can trek to Yangma village.

Day 6, Trek back to Ila Danda.

After breakfast, we will trek back to Ila Danda. The descent follows the same path that we took during our ascent.

Day 7, Drive to Ilam bazaar. Stay at hotel

From Ila Danda, we will take a jeep drive to Taplejung, then continue to Ilam Bazaar. Stay at the hotel.

Day 8, Drive to Bhadrapur and flight to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Early morning, a short drive to Bhadrapur from Ilam bazaar. Then, we fly back to Kathmandu on a 45-minute scenic flight, with our final views of the spectacular snow-capped Himalayas. Kanchenjunga Region Treks will return you to your accommodation and will pick you up this evening for a goodbye meal with a cultural performance at a Nepalese restaurant.

The money you paid, we already spent on the transportation, permit, guide, hotel in Kathmandu, mountain lodging, food, etc., so it is nonrefundable.
