However, if travellers do not have enough time to complete the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek (North and South base Camps), the South base Camp is best for them. As a result, this trip will fulfil a childhood desire to trek to the Himalayas. A delightful drive to Kanyam (Tea Garden) follows a picturesque flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur. Our South Base Camp Trek begins at Khebang.

It will pass through a lovely Limbu village, complete with its own culture and celebration. We will also continue our journey to Sherpa Gaon. It’s a lovely Sherpa village. Kanchenjunga South Base Camp.

From the South base camp, you will enjoy the breathtaking view of the Kanchenjunga range (south face), the Kabru range, Rathong peak, and the surrounding view. Trekking through March to May will be more beautiful with blooms of rhododendrons. It makes your trek more beautiful and pleasant. The trail leads us to Torongdin, Tseram, and Ramche, then finally reaches our highlighted destination, Kanchenjunga South Base Camp.

We will enjoy our trek to see numerous giant flocks of blue sheep; it is the ideal area to watch wildlife. Early in the morning, hike from Ramche to South Base Camp (Okhtang) at 4,810 meters. Then it’s the same way back down to Khebang. We will drive to Bhadrapur and then fly to Kathmandu.

How do we get to the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp?

We will fly to Bhadrapur (Far East Terai region) and take a jeep to Kanyam (enjoy the view of the beautiful tea garden), then the next morning, continue the drive to Khebang. Thereafter, we will start our trek and continue to the Kanchenjunga south base camp. In the dry season, we can drive to Yamphuding (Sherpa gaon), which is already connected by a bumpy road.

What is the cost of the Kanchenjunga Trek Permit?

A special permit is required for the Kanchenjunga Region Treks. The Kanchenjunga trek Special Permit costs $20 p/p per week for the first 4 weeks. The KCAP entry permit cost is NRs 2000 p/p per entry. So with these two permits, you will be allowed to visit this trek.

How much does the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek cost?

The cost depends on your group size and the quality of services, so different trekking companies offer this trek at different costs. We at Himalaya Darshan Treks offer an 11-day full board package that costs USD 1385 per person. Likewise, we also offer a Budget Package.

What is the best time to do this trek?

The best time for the trek to Kanchenjunga South Base Camp is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is relatively suitable.

The amount for tipping depends on the trek’s length, difficulty, and your satisfaction with the guide and porter’s service. Basically, for Kanchenjunga region treks, you can tip them for the guide, 15 to 18% for the guide and 12 to 15% of your full payment for your trekking package for the porter.

Itinerary


Day 1, Arrival at Kathmandu airport (1,400m) and Transfer to hotel.

We, Himalaya Darshan Treks, heartily welcome you and your group to Nepal. One of our company staff will take you to your hotel in Kathmandu. The person will be waiting outside the baggage hall of the Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, holding an A4-size paper with your name and our company name. Therefore, you have to look for that person for your pickup from the airport. Your check-in at the hotel.

Day 2, Flight to Bhadrapur and Drive to Pauwa Bhanjyang. Stay at hotel.

Your guide picks you up from your hotel to go to the domestic airport. Scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur (45 minutes) and drive to Pauwa Bhanjyang through beautiful tea plantation at Kanyam. If the weather is clear, you can see a beautiful mountain view of the Kanchenjunga Himalayan range. Stay at the hotel.

Day 3, Drive to Sherpa Gaun. Stay at a teahouse.

We will continue driving to Ganesh Chock or Tharpu, then change the vehicle for the bumpy road to Sherpa Gaun, passing through beautiful villages and terraced fields. Stay at the teahouse.

Day 5, Trek to Naya Jhoreni (3310m), Stay at tea house.

After breakfast, trek to Amji Khola through a narrow trail, then the trek continues ascending through the bamboo, rhododendron and mixed forest to reach Naya Jhoreni 3310 m. Stay at a teahouse.

Day 6, Trek to Tseram/Cheram (3,870m), stay at tea house.

For the entire day, the trip follows Simbuwa Khola in the direction of the northeast. The entire day is an effortless ascent with a couple of really steep climbs in the river’s valley. After passing through the rhododendron forest and arriving at Amda Phedi, the trail continues for another 2 hours to Tseram/Cheram. A wonderful view of Rathong Peak and the Kabru range. Stay at the tea house.

Note: The new trail (high route) is under constraction from Jhoreni to Chairam. it is good and nice trail to see the beautiful mountain view.

Day 7, Trek to Ramche (4,610m), Stay at tea house.

The day begins with a fairly difficult rise, and after the first half-hour of steep climbing, the valley opens up. The trail travels through various pasturelands, including one with a yak shed. (The shed is moved according to the seasons.) Views of Rathong Peak (6,678 m) and Kokthang (6,148 m) arrive after the first meadow.

After the first two meadows, the trail becomes effortless, and Ramche is found on the third meadow, immediately beneath a massive ridge, on the level territory. Stay at a teahouse.

You can also hike to Okhtang for the amazing sunset view on Mt. Kanchenjunga. It depends on you.

Day 8, Hike to Okhtang (4,810m) and back to Cheram. Stay at the tea house

Early Morning hike to Okhtang (4,810 m) (Kanchenjunga South Base Camp). Enjoy spectacular views of the Mt. Kanchenjunga Himalayan range, Khambachen Peak, the Kabru Himalayan Range, and Rathong Peak. As well as Yalung Glacier, glacial lakes, wildlife, blue sheep, etc. Trek back to Cheram. Stay at a teahouse.

Day 9, Trek to Jhoreni (3310 m). Stay at tea house.

About 3.5 hours of walking through the beautiful forest (if trekking through April or May, it will be colorful by rhododendron blooms) we will reach Tortong. Stop for lunch, after lunch and little rest, we will start to climb uphill through the nice jungle. Enjoying seeing many birds and wildlife. To reach Bhanjyang (Little Pass), then our trek will short descend and flat walking then finally reach to Jhoreni. Stay at nice teahouse. If trekking through April or May it is best place to see rhododendron flower.

Day 10, Trek back to Sherpa Gaun. Stay at tea house.

After breakfast, we will continue trekking for about 2 hours to reach Amji Khola. Then continue to the narrow trail, passing through Yak Kharka to reach Sherpa gaun. It is a small and beautiful village. Today is the last day of your trek.  Stay at a normal teahouse.

Day 11, Drive to Ilam Bazaar. Stay at hotel

From the Sherpa Gaun, we will take a jeep for a drive to Ilam Bazaar.

Day 12, Drive to Bhadrapur and Flight to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

We take a short drive to Bhadrapur and fly back to Kathmandu on a 45-minute scenic flight, with our final views of the spectacular snow-capped Himalayas. Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Treks will return you to your accommodation and will pick you up this evening for a goodbye meal with a cultural performance at a Nepalese restaurant.

NOTE:

You will be responsible for covering the costs of your accommodation, food, and other expenses in Kathmandu. If you return back early from the trek because of illness or any other issue.  The money you paid has already been spent on transportation, permits, guides’ salaries, hotels in Kathmandu, mountain lodging, food, etc. Therefore, in this case, the money is not refundable.
