You can explore a large variety of scenery and a lush tropical jungle. The easiest option is to immerse yourself in the local culture and traditions. Additionally, you can experience the lifestyle of native people, visit villages, and enjoy views of the various mountain ranges. The trip is considered challenging, requiring travelers to trek at a very high altitude.

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Route:

There are two different sides to the start and end of the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek. Clockwise or anti-clockwise. Our 20-day itinerary for this trek is clockwise. But we will organize the trek both clockwise and counterclockwise. It depends on your choice or interest.

The Clockwise Trek Route starts from Sekathum and continues through Gyapla, Ghunsa, Khambachen, Lonak, and Pangpema (Kanchenjunga North Base Camp). Thereafter, the trek descends to Ghunsa village and then follows the different valleys to reach the Kanchenjunga South base camp. The trek involves crossing three high passes: Sele La Pass, Mirgin La Pass, and Sinelapche Bhanjyang.

The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Anti-Clockwise Route starts at Khebang or Sherpa Gaun and continues the trek to Kanchenjunga South Base Camp. Similarly, the trek proceeds to Ghunsa village, traversing three high passes. From the Ghunsa Village, the trek continues to Kanchenjunga’s north base camp, then the same way, and ends at Sekathum.

Kanchenjunga High Passes

Especially the trek heads through diverse land topography, forests, and villages. You might also see snow leopards, musk deer, and several species of birds, as well as pristine oak and rhododendron forests. Then the paths wind into the higher and harsher landscape. Furthermore, you will cross the Kanchenjunga High Pass (Sinelapche La Pass at 4,640 m and Mirgin La Pass at 4,720 m) and enjoy the views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, and Chamlang Himal.

Next, you will cross the glacier and be rewarded with a magnificent close-up view of Mount Kanchenjunga, 8,586 m. You also begin the trek to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp at Pang Pema. Besides that, you’ll see central, south, and north Kanchenjunga, along with Yalung Kang, Makalu, and Jannu Himal, on the way to Selela Pass. This trek promises a unique and unforgettable experience unlike anything else.

Day hike from Pangpema (5,140 m) to Dhromo Ri 5,890 m (Optional)

This day hike from Kanchenjunga North Base Camp (Pangpema, 5,140 m) to Dhromo Ri (5,890 m) is challenging but worth it. It takes you to the top of the Kanchenjunga range, where you can see for miles around. The hiking trail ascends steeply over rocky moraines and loose scree until it reaches a high ridge with views of glaciers, glacial lakes, and a close-up of the world’s third-tallest peak and surrounding mountain peaks. The steep climb and high altitude make the path difficult, but it leads to one of the best views in Kanchenjunga.

The effort is worth it for experienced trekkers who want to see the high Himalayas from this viewpoint in a way they will never forget. If you have a plan to hike Dhromo Ri, you need one extra day in your itinerary to stay one night at Pangpema. It is not possible to hike from Lhonak, so you need to stay a night at Pangpema (K North BC); then the next early morning, you can start to hike Dhrumo Ri.

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Permit.

So, you will need at least two trekkers to receive the Kanchenjunga Trek Special Permit for the Kanchenjunga circuit trek. The word Kanchenjunga comes from the Tibetan word that suggests that “five enormous treasures in the snow” are symbolized. The five peaks represent gold, silver, precious stones, grain, and holy scriptures.

The incredible Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek will lead you into the flawless Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. The routes are a wilderness virtually untouched by time and modernization, perfect for the adventurous trekker. Who is looking for something unique? You’ll be able to hear the mysterious stories concerning the chain of legendary mountain creatures and see lovely species of life, lakes, streams, and glaciers.

  2. Gyan guided myself and my friend on Kanchanjunga tea house trek. There are thousands of trekking companies offering their services in Nepal and there is a huge variation in the quality and experience of the guides. I feel extremely lucky to have found Gyan, He has a wide experience of all the trekking routes of Nepal, from unsupported tea house treks to fully assisted camping treks and has developed a detailed knowledge, not only of the routes and the terrain but also of the many different cultures and villages that are experienced along the way. He obviously has many contacts in the villages and is obviously well liked by the local people and has good communication and language skills He always seemed to find us good accommodation and food, even when forced to change plan at short notice when my friend developed some health problems. Our trek was classed as very strenuous and was made more so by the fact that we needed to complete it in a shorter period than recommended, which meant we would be gaining altitude (up to 4800 m ) rapidly. Despite this, his choice of route allowed us to pace our ascent and we had no problems with altitude acclimatization. Indeed his excellent judgment allowed us to have an extra day at South Base Camp enabling us to see Kanchenjunga in perfect cloudless conditions. He has a calm, gentle manner and has impeccable manners. He is friendly and engaging and is always good company. He is never overbearing or intrusive. His ability to adapt to circumstances and his sound judgment based on many years’ experience inspires confidence and at no time did I feel unsafe under his guidance. I have no hesitation in recommending Gyan. I am extremely grateful to him for facilitating the perfect Kanchenjunga experience and I could not imagine a better guide.

  3. Hi. We were very fortunate to trek with GB in Kanchenjunga trek. He is a lovely, thoughtful man and a very capable and resourceful leader. Highly recommended.
