In addition, the Tiji Festival Trek to Lo Manthang starts after a short and scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. Upper Mustang is widely popular for its mysterious attractions with a wide range of monasteries, caves, archaeological inscriptions, and ancient Gompas.
It also has the attraction of amazing landscapes that will be observed and explored. The trail follows the world’s deepest gorge, Kali Gandaki, and a considerable number of villages. Likewise, hikers will enjoy incredible views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs until they reach the former capital of Upper Mustang, Lo Manthang.
We offer the Tiji Festival Trek 2025. The Upper Mustang Tiji Festival Date 2025 is the 24th, 25th, and 26th of May. The Tiji Festival functions with a religious ceremony that reflects the empowerment of strength and harmony between all devotees. Monks perform music and dance to celebrate the festival, with the king of Lo Manthang maintaining the main role. After exploring the 3-day Tiji Festival, our journey returns to Tsarang, Syangbochen, and Chhusang, and then finally to Jomsom, and we fly back to Pokhara.
As for concluding remarks on the Tiji Festival in Upper Mustang, it is important to highlight its significance not just as a cultural spectacle but also as a symbol of the rich heritage and traditions of the Tibetan Buddhist community in the region. The festival not only preserves ancient rituals but also promotes a sense of brotherhood and spiritual connection among the people of Upper Mustang.
However, the three days of celebrating the Tiji festival are ritually known as “The Chasing of the Demons.” It is based on mythological legends. During the festival, Tiji tells the story of the immortal “Dorje Jono,” who was responsible for fighting against his devil father. After all, he saved the kingdom of Mustang – Lo Manthang.
Besides that, the land of the Upper Mustang is very dry, and the Demon Father created such a critical situation by creating a water shortage, which made it very difficult to survive. Legend assumes that Dorje Jono used his supreme power against the devastating devil. He banished the Demon Father from that kingdom, an act that no other human being could accomplish. They celebrate this festival in the spring season, generally in May. If you have a short time, you can reach and observe this festival by Upper Mustang Jeep Safari.
In conclusion, the Tiji Festival in Upper Mustang serves as a captivating celebration of Tibetan Buddhist culture, showcasing traditional dances, rituals, and beliefs while also inviting reflection on the importance of heritage preservation and cultural sustainability.
