1 ReviewShort on time, big on adventure—the Manaslu Circuit Trek awaits!
The Manaslu Circuit Short Trek is a short version of the classic Manaslu Circuit Trek. The trek offers trekkers a chance to experience the majestic beauty of the Himalayas, rich cultural heritage, and diverse landscapes within a shorter timeframe. Typically spanning 9 to 10 days, this trek is ideal for those with limited time who still wish to immerse themselves in Nepal’s less-travelled and pristine region.
The trek typically lasts 9 to 10 days, starting from Machha Khola and ending at Dharapani. Along the way, you’ll encounter diverse landscapes, ancient monasteries, and unique wildlife. It’s a challenging high-pass trek, best suited for experienced trekkers. It is a short route with no time for acclimatization, so this trek is challenging. This short version is especially for travelers who don’t have enough time and interest to visit the Manaslu Trek.

Stunning Mountain Views: Witness panoramic vistas of towering peaks, including Mount Manaslu (8,163 meters), the eighth-highest mountain in the world.
Cultural Immersion: Pass through traditional Tibetan-influenced villages and ancient monasteries and interact with local communities, gaining insight into their unique customs and lifestyles.
Diverse Landscapes: Experience a range of terrains, from subtropical valleys and dense forests to alpine meadows and high mountain passes.
Larkya La Pass: Challenge yourself by crossing the Larkya La Pass at 5,106 meters, which offers breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment.

Permits: The Manaslu region is a restricted area; trekkers must obtain a special permit and be accompanied by a registered guide.
Best Seasons: The optimal times for this trek are during the pre-monsoon (March to May) and post-monsoon (September to November) periods, when the weather is stable and the skies are clear.
Physical Fitness: While the trek is shorter, it remains physically demanding due to high altitudes and challenging terrains. Adequate preparation and acclimatization are essential.
Accommodation: Along the Manaslu Circuit trek route, mountain teahouses are available. They provide comfortable lodging and delicious meals. However, the Manaslu Circuit trek does not offer luxurious accommodation, so you should prepare for basic living conditions.

What do I need to pack for the Manaslu Circuit Trek?
For the trekking gear and packing list, you can visit this: Trekking Gear.
Your guide will take you from your hotel to Gongabu bus station, where you will take a bus to Machhakhola. You can enjoy beautiful scenery during the drive. Stay at a teahouse.
After breakfast on the first day, you will start trekking along the road. We will stop at Dovan for lunch, and after that continue walking to reach Jagat.
From the Jagat, you will enter the Manaslu Conservation Area and the restricted area. Your guide will enter your MCAP permit, check in the RAP permit, and obtain a local permit as well. Then continue to Philim. It is a small and beautiful place and it’s nice to stay a night.
After breakfast, we will start our journey. The trail offers scenic views of waterfalls, forests, and the Budhi Gandaki River. After crossing several suspension bridges and passing through dense pine forests, you’ll reach Deng (1,860 m), a small, quiet village marking the gateway to the more remote Tibetan-influenced region of the Manaslu Circuit. After lunch, we will continue our walk to Bihi Village, at 2,230 m. It is a lovely place, and you can visit the monastery.
The trail gradually ascends through a mix of forested trails, narrow gorges, and small villages. You’ll pass through Ghap and Prok, enjoying stunning views of Mt. Manaslu and experiencing stronger Tibetan cultural influences along the way. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River, featuring several bridge crossings and passing through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests. Namrung (2,630 m) is a culturally rich village with monasteries, mani walls, and excellent mountain views. You continue your trek to Syogaon (2950 meters), passing through Ligaon.
The trek from Syogaon to Syalagaon is relatively short and scenic. The trail gradually climbs through beautiful alpine forests and passes traditional villages like Lhogaon, where you’ll see chortens, mani walls, and terraced barley fields. As you gain elevation, the views open up to include Himalchuli (7,893 m) and Manaslu (8,163 m). Lho Gaun (3,180 m) is a picturesque village with a strong Tibetan Buddhist presence, home to the Ribung Monastery and offering stunning sunrise and sunset views of Mt. Manaslu.
We continue to Syala and stop for lunch today. We will stay here, so after lunch we will hike to Pungyan Monastery/viewpoint and back to the hotel at Syalagaon. You can enjoy wonderful sunset and sunrise views from here.
Wake up early in the morning for a beautiful sunrise view on Mt. Manaslu and the surroundings. Take a good photo and make a great memory. After breakfast, start to walk. The trek from Syalagaon to Samagaun is also a short walk, with a gradual ascent through forests and open meadows.
Today, we will stay at Samagaon, so after lunch, we will hike to Birendra Tal/Lake, enjoy the beautiful lake view, and visit the old and historical monastery and the Manaslu Himalayan Range.
The trek from Samagaun to Samdo takes around 3–4 hours and involves a gentle climb through open alpine landscapes. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River, passing mani walls and yak pastures with dramatic views of Manaslu and surrounding peaks. Samdo (3,690 m) is a small Tibetan-influenced village close to the Tibetan border, offering a peaceful atmosphere. We will stop here for lunch; after lunch, we will continue to Larke Phedi/Dharmasala. It will be a long day, with about 750 meters of altitude gain. Stay at a teahouse.
Wake up early in the morning; the trek from Dharmasala/Larke Phedi to Bhimthang is the longest and most challenging day, taking about 7–8 hours, as you cross the high Larke La Pass (5,106 m). The trail starts with a gradual ascent from Dharamsala (Larke Phedi), then climbs steeply over rocky terrain to the pass, offering breathtaking views of Himlung, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II. After the pass, a steep descent leads through glaciers and moraines to the lush valley of Bhimthang (3,720 m), a beautiful resting spot surrounded by alpine scenery. Stay at a teahouse.

Gyan guided us during the Manaslu Circuit trek 11 days. He takes good care of the whole group and also gives a lot of insights about the surroundings (plants, villages, mountains) and their culture. He speaks very good English and goes out of his way to make your experience as pleasurable as possible. Even though we were facing difficulties with the weather, we could completely trust him to handle the difficult situation for our group. We all made it home safely, and it was a pleasure having him around during the trek. I can only recommend him, and I will definitely book him for the next trip.
