2 ReviewsAnnapurna Circuit Trek: scenic trails, cultural villages, and Thorong La Pass (5416 m)!
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is a classic trekking route in Nepal’s Annapurna region. It is renowned for its magnificent beauty and scenery. Trekking enthusiasts worldwide rank it among the top 10 trekking spots.
The trek usually starts from Besisahar/Bulbule and follows a detour, taking you through a series of beautiful villages, including Jagat, Dharapani, Manang, and Pisang. Thereafter, the route to climb up to Thorong La Pass, located at an altitude of 5,416 meters, is difficult. Trekking on this route is a lifetime achievement and offers stunning views of the Himalayan range of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri and surrounding peaks.
The eye-catching natural beauty will captivate you as you continue your journey. The Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs dominate the horizon with shining snow-capped mountains. The Annapurna trail also takes you through the canyon, Kali Gandaki Gorge, and offers glimpses of fascinating glacial lakes, including Lake Tilicho, one of the highest in the world.
In addition to the incredible views, the Annapurna Circuit Trip offers the chance to immerse yourself in the rich local culture. The area is home to different ethnic villages, including the Gurung, Thakali, and Manangi ethnic groups, each with its traditions and languages. Along the route, you will have the opportunity to visit ancient monasteries, Buddhist stupas, and traditional villages, where warm and hospitable locals will greet you with a smile.

Ice Lake, also known as Kicho Tal, is a stunning high-altitude lake in the Manang Valley of Nepal. At an altitude of approximately 4,620 meters (15,157 feet), the lake frequently freezes, hence its name. It is a popular side trek for those on the Annapurna Circuit (for acclimatization day), offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. The hike offers views of Annapurna II, III, and IV; Gangapurna; Tilicho Peak; the Chulu range; and many other snowcapped mountain peaks.
The day hike to Ice Lake typically starts from the villages of Manang or Braga and takes about 8 to 9 hours round-trip. It’s a challenging hike with a significant elevation gain, making it an excellent acclimatization activity for trekkers preparing for higher altitudes.
After breakfast, you can start the hike around 6 to 7 a.m. You can take your necessary and valuable things with you (a day bag). Water and snacks (energy bars) are necessary to carry with you. There is a teahouse on the way to Ice Lake around 4200 m, so you can stop and drink a cup of tea and coffee. Then, when you come back from Ice Lake, you can eat some soup or light food. Then continue descending to your hotel.

The spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) seasons are the ideal times to complete the Annapurna Circuit Trek. The trail is decorated with colorful rhododendron forests in bloom during the spring, while in the fall, clear mountain views against a backdrop of blue skies can be found. These times of year offer consistent weather, which makes hiking comfortable and visibility excellent.
While the Annapurna Circuit Trip is a remarkable adventure, it’s important to note that it falls under the category of moderately difficult treks. It requires excellent fitness and some prior climbing experience. Climbing to the heights and crossing the Thorong La Pass poses the most significant challenges, requiring good climatic and physical preparation. Altitude sickness is a concern, and hikers should know the symptoms and take the necessary precautions.
Despite the challenges, the rewards of the Annapurna Trek are immeasurable. The combination of breathtaking nature and cultural immersion makes this trip genuinely unforgettable. It’s a chance to reunite with nature and make memories to last a lifetime.

The challenges of the hike to Thorong La Top, such as crossing the Thorong La Pass, add to the sense of accomplishment and make it a truly rewarding experience. A trip around the Annapurna allows you to witness the majesty of the Himalayas up close, leaving you with memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a novice adventurer, this trek offers an unforgettable journey filled with natural beauty, cultural encounters, and personal development for individuals.
To sum up, the Annapurna Circuit Trek is an adventure that offers stunning scenery, cultural immersion, and a connection to nature. The trek will take you through various terrains, from lush valleys and rhododendron forests to alpine passes with panoramic views of the Annapurna range. Along the way, you meet friendly local communities, learn about their traditions and unique way of life, and have the chance to stay in traditional teahouses.

We, Himalaya Darshan Treks, heartily welcome you and your group to Nepal. One of our company staff will take you to your hotel in Kathmandu. The person will be waiting outside the baggage hall of the Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, holding an A4-size paper with your name and our company name. Therefore, you have to look for that person for your pickup from the airport.
We will begin our trips this morning, after breakfast, with a drive through the picturesque Nepalese countryside to Besisahar (850 m) by bus and to Jagat by Jeep. It is a small and beautiful place. You can enjoy the natural hot spring on the Marsyangdi riverbank.
After breakfast, we will start our journey to Chamche on the road. We can enjoy a beautiful waterfall here. From here we have to cross the suspension bridge on the Marsyangdi River and continue to Tal. It will be our lunch place. After lunch, continue to Dharapani. It is the entry point for the Annapurna Conservation Area, so we have to verify our ACAP permit.
Today is a beautiful day; we will walk through a beautiful forest and enjoy the beautiful rhododendron flower in the months of March to May. Today we can be seeing Mt. Manaslu, Annapurna II, and many other beautiful snow-capped mountains. After a short ascent from Danaque, we will reach Timang. It is a lovely place. We will stop for lunch here. After lunch, we will continue our journey to Chame (the headquarters of Manang district)
Another beautiful stroll through a narrow, steep trail that follows the riverbank will lead you to the settlement of Bratang, where you can stop for tea. Thereafter, we followed the forested walk and rough trails for an hour before crossing the suspension bridge and arriving at Dhukur Pokhari for lunch.
This little village will see the first view of Pisang Peak and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. After lunch, we’ll walk for an hour to reach our destination, Upper Pisang.
Today, the Annapurna Range shields the drier upper route from the monsoon’s full force. For a portion of the year, the people of this region herd yaks and grow vegetables.
The trail continues from Mungji to adjacent Manang, passing through the scenic but largely hidden settlement of Braga (3475 m).
In Manang, we spent the day acclimating. We spent the entire day doing beautiful day hikes and marveling at the breathtaking vistas around the village; daytime is the optimum time to gain altitude.
The charming community of roughly 500 flat-roofed dwellings is nestled amid some outstanding landscapes—Annapurna II, Annapurna III (7555 m), and Gangapurna (7454 m) to the south; Tilicho (7132 m) and the Grand Barrier to the west; and Chulu West (6583 m) and Chulu East (6059 m) to the north. We return to our lodging and retire for the night at the end of the day.

The day hike to Ice Lake 4620 m typically starts from the villages of Manang or Braga and takes about 8 to 9 hours round trip. It’s a challenging hike with a significant elevation gain, making it an excellent acclimatization activity for trekkers preparing for higher altitudes.
After a magnificent exploration of Manang village this morning, we started for Yak Kharka, leaving the route to Tilicho Lake on the left corner and continuing a short hike up to Yak Kharka, a little community nestled at the base of the mountain (4110 m). We’ll climb gradually towards a small hill, then turn right behind it to reach Yak Kharka/Ledar (4,200 m), where we’ll spend the night. Remind yourself that you can hike up to a small hill for a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
Another short day with views from above takes you to Thorong Phedi’s pass for lunch. A small yet bustling community that caters to the requirements of hikers and climbers. It is located at the base of the Thorong-La, and the trails continue to ascend to the top of the Thorong-La. We trek for an hour after lunch to reach a Thorong high camp (4,925 m) for the night.
Early in the morning, we will start our hike to Thorong La Top at 5,416 m. It takes about 3 hours from the high camp. It is an adventurous day on your trek. We will slowly ascend the Hillary Steps, following our footsteps while enjoying an incredible mountain view of the Annapurna Himalayan range. After 2.5 to 3 hours of walking, we will finally reach our final destination, the summit. It is hard and difficult walking at a high altitude, but you feel proud of yourself. Reaching this high will be a significant part of your life experience.
After the summit, we will trek down to Phedi through a steep and slippery way. Having launched here, continue walking to reach Muktinath.
After breakfast, we will drive to the hotel in Pokhara, and in the afternoon, you can fully enjoy your stay and visit the tourist city of Pokhara.

Annapurna (8091 m) and Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167 m), giving us the best views. We have a whole day in Pokhara to appreciate the natural beauty.
Returning to Kathmandu entails a 7-hour trip through the Trisuli River and via numerous towns. You can spend your time relaxing or shopping for souvenirs to take home. In the evening, we will offer a goodbye dinner with cultural dance performances in a traditional restaurant to commemorate your incredible journey.

“Big thanks to Himalaya Darshan Treks for making this amazing trip with us in the Annapurna Mountains. Providing experienced mountain guide is the key point for doing a great trek. All the advices, good stories, cultural tips we received and great talks we had about Nepal were so interesting.
We’ll come back to Nepal soon. All the best. Namaste!”
After my 2024 EBC, I returned to Nepal this April 2025 to trek the Annapurna Circuit Trek!
I naturally got back to Gyan to be my guide.
The trek was a bit last-minute, but he got to coordinate everything properly as usual. Service was as good as last year, and we had 12 days of trek that went so fast! All went smoothly. Gyan is a great guide that I more than recommend for his experience!
We also went to Chiwan National Park to enjoy Rhinos, bears, and elephants…and the heat!
Thanks a lot and hope to see you for a new adventure!!
